Housing Compliance Internal Auditor

Job Description:

NATURE OF WORK: This position is responsible for providing professional accounting and bookkeeping services for the Nisqually Indian Tribe's Housing Program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain all financial records, receivables, and records of capital outlays for the Housing Program.Manage annual budget, and compile and prepare for Financial Services.Maintain a variety of financial ledgers, journal vouchers, and records.Review, verify, correct, balance and summarize data on a variety of financial ledgers, journal vouchers and records, using both manual and computerized accounting software.Process all invoices and vouchers for payment; reconcile vendor statements and maintain vendor files; checks supporting documents, prices, and extensions.Maintain records of fiscal data relative to the status budget; recommends actions to meet present and future needs.Responsible for working with Financial Services staff to ensure the proper accounting and collection of homebuyer payments, logging, posting and preparation of the daily schedule of cash receipts and depositsExplain to the public the policies, procedures, and purposes of Authority and divisional guidelines and regulations; provides information in person and over the telephone and assists the public.Assist with property transfers and maintains property data, arranges for storage, service, and maintenance of equipment and disposal of damaged or surplus property.Search records, compile data, and classify information; initiate, examine, and take routine action on various management and accounting documents, such as reports, records, vouchers, requisitions, contracts, forms or applications where specific procedural guidelines must be met and a good understanding of applicable guidelines is essential.Assist the Housing Director with the Annual Performance Report and Indian Housing Plan; compose various financial reports, budgets, and other written communications. Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Tribal Housing Programs and HUDKnowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, bookkeeping theories and practices, and office procedures.Knowledge of federal regulations for accounting and auditing compliance.Knowledge of inventory control methods and procedures.Ability to use financial management software and systems, manage financial databases and generate spreadsheets.Ability to work successfully as part of a team and to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of government employees and officials, and the general public.Ability to communicate and express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.Ability to understand and apply applicable guidelines to varied operational requirements.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to handle stressful situations.Ability to maintain and practice strict confidentiality at all times.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field from an accredited institution AND three years of professional accounting OR an equivalent combination of appropriate experience and/or postsecondary education.Tribal housing experienceHUD programs and funding experience.Must be bondable.Must successfully pass a criminal background check.Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under Nisqually Indian Tribe's insurance policy.
