Full Time - Permanent

The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals for the position of Administrative Assistant 4 (AA4) at the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) in Shelton, Washington.

The Washington Corrections Center is a Reception and Diagnostic Center. The facility is a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has seven living units and houses 1,700 incarcerated individuals. There are about 500 incarcerated individuals screened and assessed each month. WCC is also the major hub for transfer of incarcerated individuals to and from facilities throughout the state.

* Discloses institution records to the public, media, attorneys, staff and offenders in compliance with the Public Disclosure Act (RCW 42.56), other applicable, statutes, and DOC policies and procedures.* Oversees policy development for WCC Operational Memorandums, ensuring compliance with Department Policy Directives, RCWs, WACs, Audit Standards, Collective Bargaining Agreements, etc.* Functions as the Legal Liaison Officer for the facility and serves as the conduit between the Attorney General's Office and facility staff.* Manages the public information program responding to inquiries from the public, media, special interest groups, the community and other agencies.* Manages the local audit compliance system covering such areas as emergency response, physical plant operations, food services, fiscal management, etc.* Serves as the facility Ethics Officer to the Superintendent and staff throughout the facility.* Serves as the facility Records Retention Manager advising staff on retention issues and seeking approval for destruction of records in accordance with established Records Retention Schedules.* Provides confidential administrative support for the Appointing Authority/Superintendent and is the designated legal liaison in matters relating to Agency TORT claims.* Other duties as assigned (i.e. coordinate and complete administrative projects as assigned by the facility superintendent, etc.)


* High School Diploma or G.E.D.* One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant 3 OR two (2) years of experience as an Administrative Assistant 2.


* Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or closely allied field AND three (3) years of administrative or supervisory experience.


* Experience with public communications, customer service, and/or media sources* Knowledge of policy development and revision* Experience with state, local, and/or federal court and/or law enforcement agencies

* Exceptional customer service and communication skills and the ability to interact consciously, professionally, and courteously with stakeholders, DOC staff, members of other law enforcement agencies and members of the public.* Is well-organized and adept at balancing and completing multiple priorities in a fast paced, dynamic environment.* Strong attention to detail.* Familiarity with social media and the ability to independently navigate websites, news outlets, and other electronic and/or online resources.* Ability to work effectively, professionally and cooperatively with other departments and staff at WCC.* Maintain consistent professional interactions with both staff and members of the public.

Telework Details

This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a "drop in" area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
