This platform authorizes and processes all of the companys customer card transactions. This Payment Network is a critical backbone for American Express payment products.Our platform is a low latency, always available and highly resilient platform. It is used to process transactions from around the world 24x7, 365 days a year. The Global Payments Network SRE team is a multi-functional, collaborative and innovative team responsible for the availability of the real-time authorization network and clearing and settlement platform.You will be a key contributor that influences the future of payments at American Express.Here are some examples of what youll be doing:Lead a highly skilled team of engineers to ensure high availability of the payment platform.Implement software development practices to build observability, alerting, tracing, automation and self-healing capabilities to maintain the highest levels of platform availability.Drive accountability for quality aspects in release, system performance, platform availability, operational efficiency risk management, information security and data management.Nurture an environment of innovation and continuous improvement, leading changes that drive efficiencies into existing engineering and delivery processes.Provide consultation for all significant functionality changes in the payment network and peer review critical production hotfixesChampion and drive cross-organizational development efforts for performance testing, chaos testing and the optimization of application monitoring and resiliency capabilities.Act as forward-thinking leader and remain current on modern technology-leading trends.Attract, retain and grow top talent, providing guidance, career development and mentorship to team members.As part of our diverse tech team, you can architect, code and ship software that makes us an essential part of our customers digital lives. Find your place in technology on #TeamAmexQualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.7 years of overall technology industry experience and technical delivery for large-scale organizations or start-upsStrong systems engineering and hands on application development skills (Java, Go, React). Along with a high degree of technical knowledge, ranging across several technologies (e.g., platform enablers including Prometheus, Consul, Vault, ELK and Infrastructure platforms including Cloud, networking and storage)Large scale software product engineering experience with contemporary tools and delivery methods in a complex environment (e.g., DevOps, CD/CI, Agile, etc.)Extensive experience as a leader within a Technology organization and/or in a product development company with experience developing observability and self-healing capabilities.An affinity to connect with openness and transparency and a passion to learn new technologies and optimize them to their potential.Our Tech StackThis role is for a specialized group within the American Express Engineering. We work with the below technologies daily.Go (Golang) and Java are the languages that power our platform.Our services run within Docker containers and primary run on Kubernetes clusters.We monitor our systems using technologies like Prometheus, Elastic, Kibana, Grafana, JaegerWe use HTTP/2 REST, gRPC, and Kafka.We handle configuration and secrets using open source tools such as Consul & VaultWe use Modern datastores like Redis, Couchbase, Cassandra & PostgresqlWe back our colleagues with the support they need to thrive, professionally and personally. Thats why we have Amex Flex, our enterprise working model that provides greater flexibility to colleagues while ensuring we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person culture. Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite, in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and virtual days) or fully virtually.If the role you are applying for is designated as hybrid or onsite, you will be required to demonstrate that you have completed your primary COVID-19 vaccination series (i.e., 2 doses for Moderna/Pfizer and 1 dose for J&J) in order to work in or visit any of our offices.
