Job Description:
This position has responsibility for coordination of all technical
activities on assigned tasks, activities, or projects. The Project
Engineer would be responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting,
and coordinating assigned engineering work; monitoring work for
compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and
CDM Smith quality management procedures and standards; ensures
effective communication and coordination on assigned tasks or
activities between all disciplines and all other project
participants (i.e., internal staff, Clients, stakeholders and
subcontractors).
The Project Engineer would be responsible and accountable to ensure
that all assigned personnel are coordinating their activities with
other project participants, and that the requirements of the
contract(s) or work assignments are being satisfied. Not
responsible to ensure the technical accuracy of specific design
details in areas where not qualified. Expected however, to have
sufficient technical knowledge and awareness of details to be able
to recognize when technical problems are developing in the various
disciplines, and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.
While on a project, the Project Engineer reports to the Project
Manager, who has ultimate responsibility for both the quality of
deliverables and effective execution of project assignments.
On a large project, activity or task, the Project Manager may
delegate certain project management responsibilities to the Project
Engineer, including day-to-day interaction with the Clients or
designated representative, or stakeholders, as well as coordination
of all internal activities performed by CDM Smith's staff.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's
mission by:
--- Reviewing mine site reclamation plans
--- Reviewing draft assessments and calculations with respect to
federal, state and local regulations.
--- Assist in the preparation of engineering designs, bid packages,
and specifications.
--- Participating in Client, and subcontractor meetings and
resolving Client/engineering and management project issues.
--- Ensuring that firm policies and practices are followed on all
assessments.
--- Independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard
techniques, procedures, and criteria.
--- Using professional judgment and knowledge of
principles/techniques in making minor adaptations and
modifications.
--- Learning task management techniques and the CDM Smith
management system.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering
or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7
years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel
may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific
duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the
position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be
considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering,
or related environmental science discipline, however a master's
degree is preferred.
Previous experience working on Federal projects, preferred
experience on sites dealing with contaminated soils, sediments,
surface water and groundwater that have been impacted by mining
related wastes, large-scale mine sites impacted by historic mining
activities.
Experience working directly, and ongoing relationships, with
federal and state agencies
8 years' experience in the remediation industry - familiarity with
soil, surface water, and groundwater remediation technologies
Experience working with EPA and USACE
Mine influenced water (MIW) biochemical reactor (BCR)/passive
treatment systems and mine site reclamation experience is
preferred
OSHA HAZWOPER and MSHA Safety Training
Licensed engineer in the state of the projects.

Skills and Abilities:
Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D
and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer
principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business
software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written
communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local
regulations.
