SunIRef:Manu:title Engineer I - Water Resources City of Olympia, WA - City of Olympia, WA $76,710 - $93,246 a year The Olympia Public Works Department, Water Resources division, seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Water Resources Engineer I. The selected individual will be responsible for performing professional engineering work under the general direction of professional engineers within the context of utility-based water resource management. The Engineer I will assist with multiple complex and sensitive projects as a part of a work group providing integrated planning, engineering and program development services for City water-related utilities. The Engineer I's work will focus on stormwater and wastewater. Key responsibilities will include private development review, engineering analysis, policy implementation, field crew technical support, and asset management tool development and implementation. Ideal Candidate Profile Bring a knowledge of municipal utility infrastructure, Western Washington stormwater regulations, low impact development practices, and a desire to learn more Appreciate working with multiple utilities and various staff members in a team and collaboration centered environment Competent in written and verbal communications with various audiences, including the ability to explain technical concepts in a concise manner. Skilled at determining a way to move forward. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously Comfortable working with spreadsheets, graphics, databases, word processing, project management software and operating various engineering specific computer programs such as WWHM2012, SWMM, AutoCAD and ArcMap Skilled in fostering relationships within the agency and community. Ability to deliver exceptional customer service. Prepares maps, statistical information, plans, specifications and cost estimates pertaining to Public Works projects. Performs design and drafting work on utility systems. Analyzes current systems for deficiencies and makes recommendations for improvements in design and operation. Operates computers as an aid to: drafting, data analysis, computation, word processing, report presentation, graph and chart generation. May be asked to make presentations to City officials or community groups. May contact property owners to collect data, solicit support or to inform residents in regards to assigned projects. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance. Minimum qualifications & Requirements Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of current principles, practices, methods and techniques of civil engineering, natural resource management, water resource engineering, environmental sciences or related disciplines. Knowledge of current construction methods and the associated costs. Skill in the use of ACAD Civil 3D to prepare plans and drawings. Ability to work from written and/or oral instructions. Ability to interpret engineering plans, survey notes and legal descriptions. Ability to communicate technical information effectively, either verbally or in writing. Ability to complete assigned work quickly and accurately to meet stringent timelines. Ability to create and present technical information in data or graphic format. Ability to communicate with the public in a courteous, tactful, but firm manner. Ability to perform complex civil engineering computations, either manually or with the aid of a computer or calculator. Ability to perform research and analysis on complex engineering, environmental or water resource issues, and advanced computer modeling. Ability to clearly and accurately summarize and portray research information for technical and non-technical audiences. Experience/Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering and one year of civil engineering experience required. Additional experience in civil engineering may be substituted for the college degree with one-year experience being equal to one year of college education. PE not required. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License at the time of appointment. Contacts are for the purpose of information sharing. Supervision: None Accountability: The Project Engineer I is accountable for the quality, accuracy and timely completion of all assigned tasks. Working Conditions: The Project Engineer I works in an office, but may spend extensive time in the field gathering information and reviewing existing systems. Field work may include work on busy streets and/or constructions sites; clearing brush; extensive standing or walking on slopes or in swampy areas; and entering manholes, sewer lines and/or lift stations.
