seeking to add a member to our health team! The School Nurse, under
the general guidance of the Director of Health Services, provides
professional nursing care to students and the school community. Our
health team of registered nurses is committed to the health and

- Standards of Nursing Practice
- Demonstrate nursing knowledge and skills appropriate to the
specialty practice of school nursing including growth/development,
pediatric/adolescent primary care issues, infectious and
communicable diseases, basic pharmacology, management of acute and
chronic health conditions for school-aged youth, and school health
laws/regulations.
- Utilize the nursing process (assessment, identification of
health needs, intervention, outcome) to plan and provide
individualized care for students and the school community.
- Practice is guided by the Nurse Practice Act, Washington State
(DOH, OSPI) and federal laws that are applicable to students'
health needs. Stay current with school policies and procedures
affecting student health.
- Delivery of Health Services
- Utilize clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills to
triage and prioritize students for appropriate care, referral, and
follow up.
- Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills in an emergency
situation in the school setting by administering, instructing,
and/or delegating to others first aid emergency care. Follow school
emergency procedures, manage situations calmly and
efficiently.
- Maintain security and safety of all medications, ensure safe
handling, administration, and documentation of all medications
given in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Coordination of Care
- Plan and manage care for students with life threatening health
concerns by implementing Individual Healthcare Plans (IHP) in
collaboration with the student's parents, physician as
indicated.
- Initiate referrals for diagnosis and treatment of identified
health needs and provide follow up. Act as a liaison for school,
parent, and community.
- Communication/Collaboration
- Initiate timely communication about changes in student health
status across school departments (academic faculty/staff, food
services, administration, facilities, athletics, counselors) to
optimize student health, safety, and confidentiality.
- Communicate clearly and effectively (verbally and in writing).
Establish rapport with students, parents, healthcare providers, and
community agencies. Practice effective conflict resolutions
skills.
- Implement communicable disease control in the school, including
monitoring, surveillance, and participating in disease prevention
and outbreak management.
- Teaching/Instruction
- Promote and provide health education to students, staff, and
families. Act as a resource for staff regarding employee health
issues.
- Provide nursing coverage for overnight field trips.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or which are
appropriate.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Documentation
- Proficient use of technology and health-related databases
(Outlook, Teams, OneNote, Word, PowerPoint, Magnus Health,
Veracross, Excel).
- Enter student health information and updates into Magnus Health
correctly and in a timely manner. Ensure the accuracy and security
of confidential health information, including treatment notes,
immunization, and medication administration records.
- Appropriately document all essential communications to
facilitate Health Team continuity of care for students and
families.
- Health Room maintenance
- Maintain Health Room supplies and equipment in an orderly,
well-stocked, and clean manner. Ensures Health Room is prepared to
receive patients.
- Education
- Seek clinical continuing educational activities to develop
professional skills and knowledge in school nursing.
- Attend mandatory trainings for employment (including BBP,
CPR/FA); maintain professional records and nursing
licensure/certifications.
- Mentor colleagues and new school nurse professionals in the
role of school nurse.
- Quality Improvement
- Systemically review the quality-of-care delivery and
recommend/initiate changes as needed.The successful individual in
this position will:

cooperative team member.Required Experience and Education.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college
or university.
- Valid Washington State Registered Nursing license.
- Previous experience in a K-12 school setting preferred.
- Currently holds CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (with
Epinephrine Auto Injector supplement included), or arrangements
made to obtain certification within 90 days of employment start
date.
- Valid Washington State driver's license and access to personal
transportation.
