About the Position Join Our Team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner -
Surgery - Cardiothoracic in Tacoma, WA Elevate your nursing career

setting at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. We are seeking a
dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner to provide top-tier care
in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Saint Joseph Medical Center. This is a
vital role for experienced professionals committed to patient
excellence, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact within
a dynamic hospital environment. What You’ll Do: Assist with pre-and
post-operative evaluations and treatment planning for adult
cardiothoracic patients. Act as the first assist in complex
surgeries, including coronary artery bypass, valve repairs, aortic
reconstructions, and robotic-assisted thoracic procedures. Perform
thoracic and fore-gut procedures, endoscopic vein harvest, open
radial artery harvest, and minimally invasive surgeries like VATS
and DaVinci Robot procedures. Manage ICU and step-down patients,
handle emergent procedures, conduct daily rounds, and prepare
discharge summaries. Provide weekend and evening coverage,
including walk-in and urgent clinic visits, ensuring seamless
patient care continuity. Support a team of five surgeons and
collaborate with mid-level providers for comprehensive patient
management. Required Skills: Valid Nurse Practitioner license with
current board certification. Proven experience in cardiothoracic
surgical care, including assisting in robotic and minimally
invasive procedures. Strong clinical skills in pre-and post-op
management, ICU care, and emergent procedures. Excellent
communication, critical thinking, and teamwork capabilities.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and
extended call shifts. Nice to Have Skills: Prior experience with
robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries. Proficiency with the EPIC
electronic medical record system. Background in managing a busy
surgical inpatient unit and outpatient clinic. Preferred Education
and Experience: Master's Degree in Nursing or higher from an
accredited program. At least 2 years of specialized experience in
cardiothoracic surgery. Prior locum or temporary staffing
experience is advantageous but not mandatory; candidates willing to
transition to permanent roles are preferred. Other Requirements:
Immediate availability to start as soon as credentialed, with a
targeted start date of February 7, 2026. Must complete and submit
credentialing documentation within 10 days of the process
initiation. Willingness to work full-time, including variable
hours, nights, weekends, and on-call shifts. Ability to travel to
the Tacoma area; lodging options include nearby hotels such as
Marriott Tacoma Downtown. No travel restrictions. Compensation:
Hourly pay rate: Competitive, with detailed rates to be discussed
