Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project. 

 

The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking Highway Maintenance Workers to operate a wide variety of highway equipment and tools.  In the position you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of highways and highway structures to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and commerce.  You will also perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks and may occasionally lead a crew

 What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Highway Maintenance Worker 2 will:

  • Perform day-to-day highway maintenance operations
  • Pavement maintenance and repair
  • Apply concrete, asphalt, and synthetic materials
  • Drainage maintenance
  • Sign maintenance and repair
  • Guardrail, fence, and impact attenuator installation and repair

  • Perform snow and ice removal and control
  • Design and set up traffic control
  • Perform maintenance and minor repair on equipment and hand tools

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Two (2) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, or heavy equipment operations
  • Valid Traffic Control/Flagging certificate or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment
  • Valid Washington class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restrictions

It is preferredthat qualified candidates also have:

  • High school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent

  • This position will be used to fill positions in multiple areas throughout the Olympic Region which includes areas in Grays Harbor, and Clallam counties.
  • This position is subject to the drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA). For more information, please go to DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing.
