THE TEAM

The Information Technology Division is an internal service organization responsible for providing information technology products and services in support of the agency's business priorities so that L&I can keep Washington Safe and Working. L&l's Worker Compensation IT applications are the agencies priority one systems that support the management of the worker compensation program and are used by over 3000 staff. L&l's Industrial Insurance applications includes both internal and external facing applications that support Claims Administration, Employer Services, Crime Victims, Self-Insurance, Financial Services and Fraud prevention business processes. The centerpiece of these applications is L&I's Industrial Insurance system (LINIIS) which provides data and business service to over 100 internal or external IT systems, including the agency's most critical applications and databases.

THE ROLE

This position is part of the Data Management Team in Application & Data Management (A&DM) that manages the data, databases, and provides decision support for all mission critical applications. This position provides the highest level of technical knowledge in the area of MS SQL database management and reports to the IT Manager of the Database Management Team. As the IT Data Management Senior/Specialist, you will serve as the highest-level technical specialist in MS SQL database administration. This role is key to the highly critical and complex MS SQL Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) databases environment and manages all MS SQL database's used to run the LINIIS applications. This MS SQL Server database has an internal customer base of 3000 users and 10's of thousands of external internet customers and interacts with multiple state agencies.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework is currently expected for most positions, including this one. As L&I begins to allow for staff re-entry into the workforce, the incumbent of this position may be permitted to continue teleworking in accordance with L&I's telework policy. Telework is dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. In the event that this incumbent would be needed to perform work activities in the office, the anticipated facility or field office (duty station) where the work is expected is located in Tumwater, Washington.

Some of what you'll do:

* Lead MS SQL Server Database Administrator providing technical and strategic direction on all L&I databases, which includes advising and consulting with management, core team, and system developers; providing expert level advice and consultation to internal and external customers, vendors, consultants and peers; and maintaining the database application environment and supporting multiple customers that use the agency's mission critical applications. * MS SQL Management which includes ensuring maximum database uptime; monitoring and analyzing the health and performance of all L&I mission critical MS SQL Server databases; resolving problems or issues; installing, testing and implementing new levels of software or maintenance; responding to failures in a moment's notice at any time of day. * Planning and participating in Disaster Recoveryexercises; submitting evaluation reports and taking action to correct needed items; developing and maintaining disaster recovery procedures. * And much more!

REQUIRED:

* A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or other related field and eight (8) years qualifying professional IT experience*

OR

* An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related field and ten (10) years qualifying professional IT experience*

OR

* Twelve (12) years of qualifying professional IT experience* * Qualifying professional IT experience includes analyzing, designing, troubleshooting and supporting computer systems applications or databases in the following IT disciplines: Database management, designing computer systems ordatabases, and analyzing databases.

Additionally, qualified applicants will possess:

* Ten (10) years of experience working with IT systems and server database design. * Ten (10) years of experience as an administrator performing system/database of Microsoft SQL Server services on a daily basis.This experience is to include performing project management with more than one person teams. This experience will be demonstrated by showing Advanced Technical Knowledge in three (3) of the five (5) following areas: * Monitor and Support Microsoft SQL server products/services for versions 2016, 2017, or higher. * Install and configure Microsoft SQL service products/services for versions 2016, 2017, or higher. * Automation tools and techniques using Microsoft SQL server Integration Services. * Design and architect multiple of Microsoft SQL server environments over multiple servers. * Programming languages such as TSQL, Windows Scripting, and PowerShell.

* Five (5) years of experience building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing MS SQL Server database environments.

DESIRED:

* Six (6) years of experience transforming complex data security requirements into technical solutions. * Six (6) years of experience in developing disaster recovery procedures for offsite restoration MS SQL Server database environments * Six (6) years of experience in monitoring, designing, configuring, testing, and auditing MS SQL Server database environments. * Five (5) years of experience coordinating multiple projects with varied timelines, and collaborating on problem resolution in a team environment.
