The Division:

The Electronic Services Division (ESD) sustains and enhances agency infrastructure and business processes, by improving collaboration outcomes between WSP business and technology divisions, using consistent planning processes, increasing business continuity capabilities, and providing quality communication services statewide.

This is what you will do:

This position performs as the System Administrator for the Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) microwave system, maintenance network, and Fault Monitoring and Alarm system.

This Senior Telecommunications Specialist (STS) is a journeyman level technician that provides 24x7 administration, maintenance, installation, and support of the WSP public safety voice and data communication systems which consist of both digital and analog microwave radio systems, land mobile radio systems, communications dispatch centers, data networks, and various other infrastructure equipment.

Additionally, STS technicians provide maintenance, installation, and support of mobile and portable two-way radios, speed measuring devices (SMD), telecommunications devices such as Voice over Internet protocol telephones, and various other agency electronic equipment support needs.

Required Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent * Valid non-probationary, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License with no restrictions resulting from vehicle operation or control, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment

* Two years of formal education or training in electronics

* Five years of paid experience with the implementation, operations and management of wireless or wired data networks, or digital carrier network systems

Desired Qualifications:

* Strong background in IP/MPLS technology and systems * Strong background in UNIX/LINUX operating systems * Strong knowledge and understanding of computer networks, protocols and wiring standards * Strong background in digital carrier network systems * Good understanding of Internet Protocol based systems and technologies * Experience and understanding of computer based applications, database and file storage / structure * Excellent technical writing and communication skills * General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission, technician certification by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), or similar professional certifications. * Good understanding of LMR Trunking technology and P25 digital communications

The candidate evaluation and selection process will include a preliminary screening of application materials for qualifications, clarity and completeness. Education verification is part of the selection process. If selected as a top candidate, all position required or applicant specified education must be verified. If High School diploma or equivalent is required but the applicant indicates a degree has been earned, the accredited degree will be accepted in place of the High School diploma or equivalent. Upon hire, must possess a Washington State driver's license and maintain such licensure during employment with the WSP. The applicant must possess a current, non-probationary, and non-restricted valid driver's license.
