The Data Technical Specialist positions support our COVID data
administration and data processes and instances, platformed data,
dashboard and the methods used to transport the data from our
operational data stores to the reporting and visualization data
environments, these positions must work with multiple lines of
business and multiple technologies in order to adequately perform
In these positions, you'll consistently apply tactical expertise
with a knowledge and understanding of standard data technologies to
ensure the ongoing maintenance and data delivery of tools and
associated data for our data rich environments.
These positions will need to understand the agency's COVID-19
data, business processes, strategic direction and impacts they have
on internal/external stakeholders and the internal organization.
This understanding is used to ensure current state of data
engineering within the agency is kept manageable and identifies and
guides agency efforts while ensuring data pipelines evolve in
response to business solution needs (planning, analysis, design,
configuring, and problem solving).
You'll partner with other technical teams, business analysts and
software engineers to develop the processes that capture, organize,
and route data so that it can be used to gain insights important to
business through the reduction of data points that may not be

- Managing and maintaining data environments and
organizing data events to make reporting, analysis, and using data
- Implementing processes (applications of the
pipelines) that create, maintain and improve the insight into
real-time trends by leveraging functionality provided by business
intelligence (BI) and analytics tools.
- Creating and maintaining automated data processing
products that minimize slow-downs and vulnerabilities associated
with the various stages of data intake and movement.
- Working directly with other data Specialists,
Business Subject Matter Experts, and application developers to
convert operational capabilities.
- Focusing on processes (and development of) for
collecting, parsing, provisioning, and sharing large data sets, in
order to provide the right data sets and visual tools for analysis
to the data scientists.
These positions are a part of the team that is responsible for
the implementation and management of various systems and the data
that supports the Department of Health and Statewide response to
the COVID-19 pandemic.
The impact of these systems and the data supported is across the
department, across the state and at the federal level. Impact is to
the general public, Local Health Jurisdictions, laboratories,
hospitals, clinics and the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. The team will be working with various vendors and other
state agencies as necessary to support this work.

The duty station for this position is in Tumwater, WA. Due to
the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is currently
expected. When approved to return, the incumbent is expected to
report to the duty station for work activities. Partial
telecommuting may be an option subject to supervisory approval.

Information Technology program or a closely related field; and four
(4) years of professional experience in one (1) or more of the
following IT disciplines: Systems development, data administration,

analysis, data modeling, reports. development, data pipeline
development or database administration.
