The Salvation Army Center program provides 24/7 enhanced shelter
and related services for adults experiencing homelessness.
Participants are typically people who have been identified as high
needs adults who are eligible for supportive permanent housing.
Many clients have chronic and acute mental illness, active
addiction issues, and/or trauma. This is a low-barrier, harm
reduction program. Advocates are responsible for providing direct
service to the participants, assisting with the goal of moving
participants quickly into permanent housing and fostering a team
environment among center staff and volunteers.
This position may have frequent in person contact with people
from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or
frustrated. The worker may be exposed to different inside and
outside environmental conditions. The worker may be subject to
insufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above
ambient noise level. The worker may be exposure to vibration and/or
oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Screen guests as needed with Breathalyzer
+ Check in Center clients for the night assigning them to
+ Distribute Linens
+ Help settle clients for the night and provide wake up
+ Ensure that guest list is accurate and complete
+ Permit only controlled access to the Center
+ Maintain Department Logs
+ Complete daily data for statistical reports and other reports
+ Contact Police, Medics or Fire Department by calling 911 as
+ Evacuate the building when necessary, ensuring all guests are
+ Write reports of all incidents and accidents
+ Report any cases of suspected abuse or injury immediately to a
supervisor or office staff
+ Report any needed repairs or supply requests to supervisor or
+ Customer service mindset
+ Enforce building and program rules and policy.
+ General knowledge of business protocols
+ Perform other functions as requested
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
+ Able to hand write legibly.
+ Able to stand for sustained periods of time.
+ Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs
quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to
+ Ability to lift, move and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
+ Attend staff meetings, workshops, retreats, and in-service
classes as provided.
+ Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in
timesheets on schedule.
+ Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to
deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in
+ Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work
+ Maintain a safe and comfortable Center environment, including
physical set-up and light janitorial duties, when necessary.

Job Conditions:This position requires the employee to work in an
environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids,
and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could
include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control,
paint and other materials used in building maintenance. Working
conditions may include interruptions with angry persons, and
exposure to computers and digital touchscreen displays.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
+ High School Diploma or the equivalent
+ Previous work experience in programs that work with high needs
+ CPR certified
+ 2 years of customer service experience
SCOPE OF POSITION:
+ Provide support to the department to help ensure that the
needs of the Center clients are served.
