Position Objective:

The Cloud Data Engineer develops cloud native data warehouse and business intelligence solutions, in collaboration with a team of data modelers, data analysts, data engineers, and subject matter experts from divisions across HCA, to support HCA's Enterprise Data Platform.

This role provides the opportunity to perform end-to-end development of data solutions using cutting edge cloud technology, incorporating best practices of software development including: automated testing, continuous integration, and service oriented architecture.

Some of what you will do:

  • Independently design, develop and document ETL data workflows and code for new data integrations and maintain/enhance existing workflows and code.
  • Create ETL data landing and staging structures as well as source to target mapping documents.
  • Perform data cleansing, data conversion, import and export of data within and between internal and external software systems.
  • Using Python and AWS Command Line Interface (boto3) to automate AWS activities, not limited to, but including resource building through CloudFormation, resource scheduling (Starting and stopping EC2 instances based on events), and secondary operations related to AWS resources (e.g. encryption automation, maintaining 'code as infrastructure' standards by building all resources with Python)
  • Facilitate and perform comprehensive testing, including but not limited to, unit testing, system testing, security and vulnerability testing, performance testing, and user acceptance testing as appropriate.
  • Provide troubleshooting to solve the most complex technical data and infrastructure issues for production and preproduction environments.
  • Implement tools and frameworks for automating unit tests, identification of data-quality issues, and data governance.
  • Provide technical consulting and advises teams and customers on ETL and integrations resulting in an efficient and effective data ETL and integrations. 
  • Provide technical consulting and advises teams and customers on automation and interface with AWS CLI and use of CloudFormation. 
  • Analyze business intelligence data and make recommendations for data warehouse growth and optimal performance. 

 

Here is what we are looking for (Required Qualifications):

A minimum of three (3) years of experience with Object Oriented Programming and scripting language design, development, integration and deployment with mid to large-scale development efforts.  Experience with programming language such as C#, Java, C++, etc. and scripting languages like python, JSON, PowerShell, ruby and Unix shell scripts.  Python experience is preferred.

 

College coursework including substantial credits in Object Oriented Programming and/or scripting may substitute for the required experience on a basis of two years of education for one year of experience.

A combination of at least four years of experience in the following areas (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Writing data querying code, and performance tuning.  Excellent knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience and advanced knowledge of databases gained through design and creation of complex relational databases, data warehousing, data analytics and analysis, including experience with large, complex administrative databases/warehouses.
  • Experience with Extract Transform and Load (ETL) from multiple data sources in different formats.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Analysis/Intelligence, or closely related field.

Experience with multiple SQL dialects.

Familiarity with columnar databases like Amazon Redshift.

Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS.
